I think about, write about and coach expat women around the challenges of expatriate living. I know that connection, identity and energy are the three things that can make your expatriate experience great. They’re also the things that can be the hardest to find, build and maintain in the early months/years of living abroad. Things like:
'If I could move all my friends here it would be perfect.'
I want to find people that you feel relaxed and comfortable with … that I can just call up or go out with to have a good time doing the things I like doing – I want to find 'my' people.
I want deeper connections with people like me.
'I constantly have to rethink who I am … it's so confusing.'
I want to be clear about who I am so that you I be confident at work and open to meeting new people. I want to find a way to show up as the real me so that I can relax.
I want to be know who I am so that I can be real and relaxed.
'Everyone tells me to network, but I just don't have the energy ... I'm exhausted.'
I just want to get out of bed feeling refreshed. I want the mental space I need to deal with everything that each day brings and the energy to enjoy myself.
I want to take better care of my body and mind.
What’s the upside here? All of these things can be overcome – you can find connection, clarity and energy. The answer is simple but not easy.
How to start?
Slow down to look at yourself and your life with compassion
Understand your situation realistically so that the choices are clear
Build a mindset for connection, confidence and thriving.
Name and own the thing you want most
Know and honestly appreciate your skills and talents
Design and try new things that are realistic, doable and right for you
You can do this work alone or in a professional coaching relationship. Of course, please reach out and I’m happy to talk with you about what this might look like.
I’m looking forward to the conversation!
